Picture History
This picture was taken in Boston, Massachusetts, 1958. The ship had just come out of drydock and we had just finished painting the ship. This photo is of RADM Arleigh Burke and his staff.

Photos sent in by the Macon Personnel Officer, Roy H. Rodgers, who served on the Macon -1952-55. Photo taken somewhere from the Fall of 1953 to Spring of 1954. The Macon was the flagship for Cruiser Division Six. Officers identified as (L-R) RADM Arleigh Burke, Commander Cruiser Division Six, and Capt. U.S.G. Sharp, Jr., Commanding Officer of the Macon. Should any former member of the Macon have the names of the last two gentlemen, please let me know. Photo taken at the U.S. Navy Cruisers Association display on board the USS Salem (CA-139), located at the United States Shipbuilding Museum, Quincy, Massachusetts. Standing in back of the newly acquired model of the USS Macon; Paul Sfreddo, President, USS Macon Veteran's Association; Harold Foley, past President and former Treasurer, Macon Association; Ed August, Treasurer, Cruiser Sailors Association; Bill Hennessey, President Massachusetts Chapter, Cruiser Sailors Association; and Bud Johnson, Treasurer, Macon Association. I am including a picture of John Fabian at the ripe old age of 77. He looks like he could serve back on active duty.

Thank you John for sending in the pictures.

The photo was contributed by John Fabian, Region 9 director of the U.S. Navy Cruiser Sailors Association. John is the guitar player in the first row, second man from the right. The band leader was Ensign Roy Lang, the trombonist and the 12 fine musicians that made up a great entertaining band.

Also, the Marine trumpeter was Amory Houghton, Jr. Identities of the other members are not available. If any shipmates can identify any of the other band members, please let me know and we will add them onto the website.
